VAT Calculator

To add VAT, multiply the net amount by (1 + rate/100); to extract VAT from a gross amount, divide it by (1 + rate/100). For example, at 20%, 1,000 TRY net becomes 1,200 TRY gross, and 1,200 TRY gross has a net of 1,000 TRY. This tool does the maths for you: enter the amount and rate, choose the direction and see net, VAT and total instantly. Add several lines to calculate items with different rates together. Rates on this page follow Turkish KDV practice.

VAT formulas

  • Adding VAT: VAT = Amount × Rate / 100; Total = Amount + VAT.
  • Extracting VAT: Net = Amount / (1 + Rate / 100); VAT = Amount − Net.
  • With multiple lines, each line uses its own rate and the totals are the sum of the lines.
  • Results are rounded to 2 decimal places; ask your accountant about rounding rules for official documents.
  • Verify current Turkish VAT (KDV) rates and the rate that applies to your product with the Revenue Administration (gib.gov.tr).

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove VAT from a gross price?

Divide the gross amount by (1 + rate/100); the result is the net amount. The VAT is the gross amount minus the net. Example at 20%: 600 ÷ 1.20 = 500 net and 100 VAT.

Can I just subtract 20% from the gross amount?

No, that is a common mistake. Subtracting 20% from 1,200 gives 960; the correct net is 1,200 ÷ 1.20 = 1,000. Extracting VAT requires division, not multiplication.

Which VAT rate should I use?

The rate depends on the type of goods or services. The tool offers the commonly used Turkish rates of 1%, 10% and 20%, and you can enter any other value as a custom rate. Verify the current rate for your product with the Turkish Revenue Administration or your accountant.

Can I calculate items with different VAT rates at once?

Yes. Use 'Add line' to enter a separate amount and rate per item; the table shows net, VAT and total per line and overall.

Is this calculation an official document?

No. The tool is for quick, informational calculations; rely on your accounting software and accountant for invoices and tax returns.
