IBAN Validator

To validate an IBAN, type it with or without spaces; the tool checks that it starts with TR, is 26 characters long and that its mod-97 check digits match, formats it in groups of four and shows the 5-digit bank code. The check is format-only: it catches typos but does not show that the account exists, is open or who owns it. The IBAN is checked in your browser; it is never sent or stored.

Spaces are optional; only Turkish (TR) IBANs of 26 characters are supported.

This is a format check only: it shows that the IBAN follows the rules, not that the account exists, is open or who owns it. Check the recipient name in your banking app before sending money.

The IBAN you enter is checked in your browser; it is never sent or stored.

The tool opens after a quick security check…

How to use it

  1. 1Type or paste the IBAN into the box; spaces and hyphens are removed automatically.
  2. 2See in the result line whether the IBAN is correctly formatted and, if not, why.
  3. 3Copy the formatted IBAN (TR00 0000 ...).
  4. 4See the 5-digit bank code taken from characters 5–9 of the IBAN.
  5. 5Before sending money, also check the recipient name in your banking app.

TR IBAN structure

  • 26 characters in total: TR + 2 check digits + 5-digit bank code + 1 reserved digit + 16-character account number.
  • The check digits are validated with the ISO 13616 mod-97 method: the first 4 characters are moved to the end, letters are converted to numbers and the remainder after dividing by 97 must be 1.
  • The bank code is shown as a code only; the tool does not include a list of bank names.

Frequently asked questions

Does IBAN validation show that the account exists?

No. The tool only checks the format: length, characters and mod-97 check digits. An account behind a correctly formatted IBAN may be closed or may never have been opened. Only your bank can confirm the account holder.

Which errors does the mod-97 check catch?

It catches a single mistyped character and two adjacent characters that have been swapped. Because the check digits are calculated over the whole IBAN, such typos make the checksum fail.

Is the IBAN I enter sent or saved?

No. The check runs in your browser; the IBAN is not sent to a server or written to local storage. It is gone when you close the page.

Can I check IBANs from other countries?

This tool supports only Turkish IBANs starting with TR. IBANs from other countries have different lengths and structures.

Why is the bank code not shown with a bank name?

Because bank codes can change over time, the tool does not keep a list of bank names; it only shows the 5-digit code from the IBAN. Your own banking app shows the recipient's bank and name.
