Character Counter

To count characters, type or paste your text into the box; characters with and without spaces, words, sentences, paragraphs and an estimated reading time appear instantly. Accented and Turkish characters (ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş, ü) and emoji count as a single character. If the text is meant as a Google title (about 60 characters) or meta description (about 160 characters), the length indicator shows whether it goes over the limit.

Your data never leaves your device: everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between characters with and without spaces?

The count with spaces includes spaces, tabs and line breaks; the count without spaces leaves them out. Limits on social media and in form fields usually refer to the count with spaces.

Are accented and Turkish characters counted correctly?

Yes. The text is first normalised (Unicode NFC), so letters such as 'ş' or 'é' that some sources send as two parts count as one character. Emoji with skin tone modifiers also count as one character.

How are words counted?

Runs of letters and digits count as words. Expressions joined by an apostrophe or hyphen ("don't", "e-mail") count as one word; punctuation and standalone symbols are not words.

How long should a Google title and description be?

Google does not set a strict character limit; it truncates by pixel width. In practice, about 60 characters for the title and about 160 for the description make it more likely they display in full. The indicator uses these approximate values.

Is the text I type saved anywhere?

No. Counting happens in your browser; the text is not sent to a server or written to local storage. It is gone when you close the page.
